Brooks Levitate with DNA AMP Delivers Infinite Energy

New DNA AMP Midsole Technology Provides the Most Energy Return of Leading Performance Running
September 20, 2017 12:01 AM Eastern Daylight Time
SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Based on seven years of Run Signature research, Brooks Running is launching the all new Levitate with DNA AMP—a shoe engineered to provide the most energy return of leading performance running shoes. The springy and responsive Brooks Levitate is available for pre-order beginning today at http://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/brooks-levitate-running-shoes.html and will be available worldwide Sept. 30.

“We’re pushing the limits of energy return with the new Brooks Levitate and are excited to unveil a shoe that has been engineered from the ground up to provide runners with an infinitely energetic experience,” said Carson Caprara, director of global product line management, Brooks Running. “The Brooks Levitate features our revolutionary new DNA AMP midsole technology that releases energy straight back to the runner, making the experience so fun they might feel like running forever.”

The Brooks Levitate is the first shoe to feature the company’s exclusive DNA AMP midsole. Created in partnership with BASF, DNA AMP is a brand new polyurethane (PU)-based cushioning system strategically engineered to provide unparalleled energy return. The foundation of DNA AMP is a PU foam that naturally expands, returning energy as force is applied. To deliver an amplified experience, Brooks encased the foam in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) skin that resists horizontal expansion to deliver energy directly back to the runner. The result is an engineered compound that provides exceptional energy return as well as an eye-catching chrome-like finish that feels as great underfoot as it looks.

To add to the energizing experience of the shoe, the Brooks Levitate features an integrated Fit Knit upper that comfortably accommodates a runner’s foot as it moves and expands. Brooks Fit Knit utilizes a circular knit process to create a precisely engineered upper that provides breathability where desired and structure where needed. A flexible, arrow-point pattern on the outsole of the shoe helps runners move quickly from heel to toe, without losing energy.

The Brooks Levitate with DNA AMP will be available for $150 in two colors for women and two colors for men. Additional details about the shoe can be found HERE.

‘Minimal’ shoes may reduce running injuries

Press Release:

Runners who wear trainers with no cushioning and land on the ball of their foot rather than the heel put significantly less demand on their bodies, new research suggests.

Researchers compared how quickly the force acts when runners’ feet hit the ground — known as the loading rate — which has been shown to influence running injury risk.

The study of 29 runners found significantly lower loading rates for those who wore so-called minimal trainers and landed on the ball of their foot, compared to people in normal running shoes, regardless of whether the latter landed on the heel or ball of the foot.

Lead author Dr Hannah Rice, of the University of Exeter, said: “So many people use running as a means of reducing the risk of chronic diseases, but about three quarters of runners typically get injured in a year.

“Footwear is easily modifiable but many runners are misguided when it comes to buying new trainers. “This research shows that running in minimal shoes and landing on the balls of your feet reduces loading rates and may therefore reduce the risk of injury.”

Running continues to grow in popularity, and research aimed at reducing the high incidence of running-related injuries has been ongoing for decades — but injury rates have not fallen.

Modern-day runners in cushioned footwear tend to land on their heel — known as a “rearfoot strike” — while those who run in the natural barefoot state are more likely to land on the ball of their foot – a “forefoot strike”.

Rearfoot strike runners experience an abrupt vertical impact force each time the foot lands on the ground. This impact force is often missing when running with a forefoot strike, but previous research has shown that forward/backwards and sideways forces can be higher with a forefoot strike, meaning the total force is similar.

Total force seems to be similar between foot strikes if wearing modern, cushioned trainers.

Dr Rice said: “This seems to suggest that, for runners in traditional, cushioned running shoes, foot strike pattern may not matter for injury risk.

“However, we suspected that the same may not be true of runners who regularly use minimal shoes, which don’t have the cushioning provided by traditional running shoes.

“Our research tells us that becoming accustomed to running with a forefoot strike in shoes that lack cushioning promotes a landing with the lowest loading rates, and this may be beneficial in reducing the risk of injury”

Any transition to new footwear or to a different foot strike pattern should be undertaken gradually, and with guidance.

New study by running experts: Don’t change your stride

Press release:

USA Track and Field consultant Iain Hunter and U.S. Olympian Jared Ward have a message for runners: Don’t mess with your stride.

A new study by the duo of BYU professors finds the stride length people naturally choose is the best for them, whether they are experienced or inexperienced runners. That means whatever shape you are in — marathon warrior or weekend jogger — stick with what you’re doing.

“Don’t worry about changing your stride length,” said Hunter, a professor of exercise science at BYU. “You should just leave it alone or you’re going to use more energy in the end.”

The study, published in the International Journal of Exercise Science, measured the energy use of 33 runners while carrying out various strides during a 20-minute run. Of those runners, 19 were experienced runners (meaning they averaged at least 20 miles a week) while 14 were inexperienced runners (people who have never run more than 5 miles in a week).

During their runs participants used five different stride lengths: their natural stride, and then strides of plus and minus 8 and 16 percent of their normal stride. Subjects maintained the adjusted strides thanks to the assistance of a computer-based metronome, which beeped each time their foot should’ve hit the treadmill. Meanwhile, researchers measured the energy output of the runners with masks that recorded the amount of oxygen used.

The results found both the experienced and the inexperienced runners were most efficient when they were using their preferred stride. Thus, athletes and coaches don’t need to alter a runner’s stride length when economy is the main concern.

“Just let it happen; it doesn’t need to be coached,” Hunter said. “Your body is your best coach for stride length.”

Hunter and Ward would know — both are experienced runners and both have trained and researched high-level distance runners for years. Ward, of course, finished 6th in the marathon at the 2016 Olympics and recently finished in the top 10 of the 2017 Boston Marathon.

Ward, an adjunct faculty in the BYU statistics department, said the takeaway is similar to that of elite runners: Be very careful if you’re trying to alter your stride if efficiency is your main concern.

“Many people are advocating for various ‘optimal’ running forms, but this study shows even novice runners shouldn’t try to run any different than their body naturally does,” he said. “Enjoy running and worry less about what things look like.”

Hunter’s expertise has led him to carry out biomechanical analyses for USA Track and Field for the past 14 years. He is headed to London this August with Team USA for the World Championships, where he will help film and analyze U.S. athletes during competitions.

Kelly Lee, a BYU undergraduate, and James Tracy, a former BYU steeplechase athlete and a current grad student, were also coauthors on the paper.

Saucony® Launches the Saucony Stride Lab™ App

Press release:

WALTHAM, MA (November 3, 2016) – “To keep runners running, it’s not enough to get them in the right shoe; we need to help them build better running bodies,” says Spencer White, head of the Saucony Human Performance & Innovation Lab, the brand’s state-of-the-art running research center focused on empowering runners through performance innovation. Today, the Saucony Lab figuratively opened its doors to runners everywhere with the launch of the Saucony Stride Lab app, the first interactive tool that puts the power of a cutting-edge biomechanics lab in the palm of every runner’s hand.

The Saucony Stride Lab app, developed in partnership with Jay Dicharry, MPT, SCS, author of Anatomy for Runners, empowers the individual runner to build a better running body right from their personal mobile device. The Stride Lab’s innovative interface first guides the individual runner through a multi-step personal evaluation that includes their stance, mobility, stability and stride−all from their iPhone. The Stride Lab then instantly interprets the data, prioritizes the results and delivers to the runner a customized and ever-evolving plan of running-specific exercises and dynamic drills to optimize their running experience. The Saucony Stride Lab app is now available as a free download at iTunes.

“With the launch of the Stride Lab app we’re throwing open the doors of the Saucony Human Performance & Innovation Lab, sharing decades of expertise and research in stride analysis and biomechanics to help runners perform and feel better,” said White. “That information, in combination with Jay Dicharry’s world-renowned expertise in biomechanical analysis and sports athletic performance, has allowed us to create a personal running lab experience, customized for each individual runner and accessible from their mobile device at their convenience.”

“Working with tens of thousands of runners, from the novice to the Olympic level, has shown us that people are different, that they can and should run in a manner that complements their body structure,” said Dicharry. “It’s critical that runners first assess their stance, mobility, stability and stride to determine the best way for them to run. The Saucony Stride Lab app allows runners do just that, and then determines a running-specific plan of BodyWork exercises and running drills that they can follow to maximize their running performance. While other apps track the quantity of your run, the Stride Lab app will improve the quality of your run.”

The Saucony Stride Lab app will be launched to the running community at the Saucony booth at the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo taking place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City from Thursday, November 3rd through Saturday, November 5th.

How Does The Saucony Stride Lab App Work?

  1. Get Evaluated: From your iPhone, the Stride Lab app will guide you through a 7-point assessment where we can benchmark your body and identify limiters that stand in the way of your running goals.
  2. Get Your Plan: Receive a customized plan of running-specific exercises and drills that address your unique issues to improve your running experience for the long term. The Stride Lab app will give you up to five BodyWork exercises at a time to perform three-times a week. You can go through them all at once or fit them in at your convenience.
  3. Get Running: Check in with the Stride Lab app before every run for a series of dynamic running drills to incorporate into your daily run.
  4. Get Points: Just like a personal coach, the Stride Lab app keeps track of all the great work you’re doing. See your BodyWorks score rise as you complete your tasks.
  5. Get Progress: Every few weeks the Stride Lab app will ask you to re-evaluate yourself to see how you’re improving and whether you are ready to focus on the next challenge.

New Altra EGO™ Midsole Material Creates the Holy Grail of Running Shoe Cushioning — Fast and Springy, Yet Comfortable and Soft

SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Altra Footwear announces Altra EGO™, an innovative new midsole cushioning. See all of Altra’s new footwear and apparel products at Booth #36179 at Outdoor Retailer Specialty Market, August 3-6, 2016 in Salt Lake City.

Altra EGO™ new midsole cushioning material

Altra’s simple but breakthrough FootShape™ toe box and cushioned ZeroDrop™ platform changed running shoes for the better. The young brand wanted an equally game-changing cushioning for trail and road running shoes with outstanding rebound, light weight and superior comfort.

Altra EGO™ is their answer, a proprietary blend of cushioning compounds, with a name inspired by the dual nature of the new cushioning.

“We’re excited about what we’ve achieved with the Altra EGO cushioning,” said Golden Harper, founder of Altra Footwear. “Traditionally, running shoes that felt ‘soft’ could also feel like they robbed energy, a bit like slo-mo or running in mud. On the other hand, shoes marketed as performance or responsive are firm and less comfortable.

“Our goal with Altra EGO™ cushioning is to offer the holy grail of running shoe cushioning — fast and springy, yet comfortable and soft.”

Harper believes this cushioning is perfect for elite runners because the shoe “runs fast and feels responsive,” yet ideal for recreational runners because it feels distinctively soft and comfortable underfoot.

Unlike traditional EVA midsoles, Altra EGO performs better and more consistently in extreme temperatures. In tests against traditional running shoe foams, Altra EGO has high long-term durability to maintain excellent cushioning and energy return properties throughout the life of the shoe.

On shoes, the new midsoles are highlighted with a distinctive design inspired by the inherently strong, light, yet resilient design of a spider web.

Altra Escalante™ with Altra EGO

Introducing Altra Escalante™ with Altra EGO, featuring energetic rebound in a moderately cushioned package that’s noticeably thinner than conventionally cushioned shoes. The richly colored engineered-knit upper provides a sleek aesthetic and a sock-like fit.

The spectacular natural environment of Utah, Altra’s home state, inspired the shoe’s name. The Escalante River winds through sinuous sandstone gorges and creates the undulating patterns emulated in the shoe’s knit upper. This river and the rugged canyons which drain into it form a key section of Utah’s Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, providing nearly two million acres of scenic roads and trails for running, hiking and backpacking.

Like all Altra shoes, the Escalante features the FootShape™ toe box, cushioned ZeroDrop™ sole and truly female specific fit, with a new name, Fit4Her™.

Stack height: 25 mm, built on Altra’s PFS performance last

Weight: 8.2 ounces/232g (men’s sample size 9), 6.5 ounces/182g (women’s sample size 7)

Altra King MT™ with Altra EGO

Introducing the Altra King MT, made for runners whose idea of fun involves mud, wet grass, and burly mountain climbs. This shoe includes significant 5.5 mm outsole lugs designed for lateral braking, medial gripping and maximum traction in wet and slippery conditions.

Topping that traction is the Altra EGO mid-sole, a new compound with high rebound at a low weight. A flexible StoneGuard™ rock plate adds extra underfoot protection. The King MT has the most supportive upper of any Altra with TPU overlays on durable polyester ripstop fabric. New is the FootLock™ feature, a midfoot strap to lock the foot in the shoe on steep ascents and descents.

The King MT is named for Utah’s highest peak, continuing Altra’s tradition of naming its trail shoes after iconic mountains in its home state.

Like all Altra shoes, the King MT features Altra’s award-winning FootShape toe box and cushioned ZeroDrop platform. These features combined with the aggressive TrailClaw™ metatarsal lugs, Vibram MegaGrip™ outsole and low 19 mm stack height make this shoe ideal for obstacle course racing and the growing sport of mountain running, or Fell running, as it’s known in Europe.

Stack height: 19 mm

Weight: 9.5 ounces (men’s sample size 9), 7.8 ounces (women’s sample size 7)

  • Men’s: Black/red, Grey, Royal blue
  • Women’s: Black, Magenta, Teal

About Altra

Altra Footwear has shoes for road, trail, track, treadmill and every day, as well as a full line of running apparel. Altra is now the third largest trail shoe brand sold in run specialty with three of the top seven trail-running shoes, according to data from NPD: Altra Lone Peak, Superior and Olympus.

Altra’s running shoe innovations are born from long hard runs in the Wasatch Mountains, just minutes from Altra’s Utah headquarters. Founder Golden Harper, a former All-American runner who loves to run to the top of difficult mountain summits, invented a cushioned ZeroDrop shoe and a foot-shaped toe box, features that are now found on every Altra shoe. Co-founder and Global VP of Sales Brian Beckstead completes at least one ultramarathon each year, including Eco-Trail Norway in 2016, Ultra Trail Mont Blanc and the Wasatch 100 in 2015 and Ultra Trail Mt Fuji in 2014.

ASICS Launches DynaFlyte – The Key To Fast Running

IRVING, Calif., June 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — ASICS launches the new DynaFlyte model, its lightest-ever cushioning shoe for runners who want speed. Delivering both lightweight and cushioning, the DynaFlyte model unlocks runners’ speed so they can run fast at any distance. Featuring a full-length FlyteFoam midsole, DynaFlyte is the first product that allows everyday runners to experience ASICS latest patented midsole technology in its purest form.

ASICS held a global launch event for the DynaFlyte model in New York City on June 14, featuring ASICS elite athletes Candace Hill and Ryan Hall, media, influencers and scientists from ASICS Institute of Sports Science (ISS).
The DynaFlyte model unlocks the potential to run fast by delivering superior cushioning in a lightweight shoe. With less shoe weight to swing forward, runners experience less energy loss, more efficient running and unlock the potential for speed at any distance.

Maintaining effective cushioning while simultaneously reducing a shoe’s weight is a key challenge in running footwear development. Featuring category-bending innovations, it has defied the inverse correlation between lightweight and cushioning, allowing runners to improve their speed at any distance. Having broken the 10.5 oz barrier, DynaFlyte weighs 9.3 oz for men and 7.8 oz for women.

Discover Pure FlyteFoam Technology
At the core of the DynaFlyte model is FlyteFoam, ASICS patented lightweight and responsive cushioning technology ? first trialed in MetaRun in November 2015. DynaFlyte marks the first use of FlyteFoam in its purest form, through a full-length midsole engineered to deliver lightweight and highly-functional cushioning.

FlyteFoam is the result of about three years of development and over 300 prototypes tested at ASICS Institute of Sport Science. Built with reinforced fibers that work to maintain cushioning, it is approximately 55 percent lighter than the industry standard and is ASICS lightest midsole. Equipped with a full-length FlyteFoam midsole, DynaFlyte meets the highest level of cushioning standards among ASICS running footwear.

The ISS Promise
The DynaFlyte model was designed and developed at the ISS, ASICS research & development center in Kobe, Japan. ISS, the beating heart of ASICS, is where countless pieces of data from amateur and professional runners over the past 30 years are curated and analyzed to inform product development. ISS has put ASICS at the forefront of research in running. Their rigorous approach to product development has led to the discovery of the breakthrough technology, FlyteFoam.

DynaFlyte embodies ISS human-centric science approach to product development and commitment to continuous improvement, bringing new possibilities to runners looking for performance and speed at any distance.

With DynaFlyte, runners can fully experience FlyteFoam technology at its purest. We are excited to launch DynaFlyte, and see how FlyteFoam will be able to help runners unlock their speed, said Dr. Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, Executive Officer, Senior General Manager, ASICS Institute of Sport Science.

DynaFlyte in Action
ASICS sponsored a global launch event in New York City on June 14th, showcasing the DynaFlyte model, its key product release of the year and its featured technology, FlyteFoam. During the launch ASICS introduced an interactive installation, the DynaFlyte Deck, a specialized running track. The event was designed to bring to life the shoe’s full experience and consumer benefits.

Developed in cooperation with ISS, it is programmed with colored lighting and sounds that offer runners on the track different drills to experience and feel the DynaFlyte models core benefits ? lightweight, cushioning, and the potential for speed.

Media and influencer attendees were able to test-run the product on ASICS’ custom-made DynaFlyte Deck.

ASICS elite athletes Ryan Hall and Candace Hill, as well as scientists from ISS, also participated in the global launch event.

ASICS newest and youngest track and field athlete, Candace Hill, spoke about her partnership with ASICS:

One of the reasons why I choose partnering with ASICS is because they get what it means to be fast and being the fastest is the main focus for me on the track and in my training said Hill. This new shoe by ASICS can unlock that potential for everyone while still feeling light and comfortable.

The DynaFlyte model will be available for men and women at ASICS online stores and select running outlets worldwide starting July 2016.

HOKA ONE ONE® Brings Revolutionary Brand Experience Beyond Running

Press release:

RICHMOND, Calif., Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Since introducing its revolutionary oversize midsole technology in 2009, HOKA ONE ONE®, a division of Deckers Brands (NYSE: DECK), has become the fastest growing road and trail running shoe brand in the world. HOKA ONE ONE’s growth can be attributed to runners of all types embracing the brand’s promise of delivering lightweight, well-cushioned shoes with an inherently stable ride. For fall 2015, the brand will bring this promise to the hiking footwear category with the launch of its MTN collection. With five new styles that range from high-top hiking boots to lightweight mountain runners, serious mountain trekkers and casual hikers alike will be able to experience the HOKA ONE ONE revolution. Broken into two categories, MTN Trek and MTN Run, the new collection ranges in retail prices from $130 to $230 USD.

MTN Trek

The flagship of the MTN Trek series is the Tor Ultra Hi WP. Weighing slightly over one pound, the Tor Ultra Hi WP combines HOKA’s signature running shoe cushioning and Meta-Rocker geometry with a supportive high-top upper. The new silhouette is rich with performance enhancing features, including a new Vibram® MegaGrip outsole rubber with five millimeter lugs to provide traction over varied terrain, a leather and nylon mesh upper for durable support, and an eVent® waterproof, breathable membrane to keep feet dry.

MTN Run

The new Speedgoat, designed with input from legendary ultra-runner Karl Meltzer, is HOKA’s newest trail running shoe, retailing for $130 USD. The Speedgoat is built for the most challenging, technical trails, featuring a Vibram® rubber outsole with four-millimeter lugs and trail-specific flex grooves. The no-sew upper provides support through the forefoot, and a ground-rubber toecap offers critical toe protection. This new silhouette provides lightweight traction and stability all within a package that weighs less than 10 ounces.

Also included within the MTN Run category, the Mafate 4 is available for $170 USD and is the brand’s most cushioned and supportive trail running shoe to-date. Late-stage Meta-Rocker geometry, plus deep longitudinal and lateral flex grooves in the outsole, provide unbeatable stability over uneven terrain. A TPU toecap adds protection and wide toe box keeps feet happy.

“Hiking shoes are a natural brand extension for us as our midsole technology translates perfectly into hiking product,” says HOKA ONE ONE president Jim Van Dine. “The new MTN collection will allow hikers of all abilities to experience the advantages of our lightweight cushioning and Meta-Rocker geometry. We’re looking forward to welcoming even more customers into the HOKA community.”

In addition to the new MTN collection, the brand is releasing updates to some of its most popular styles for fall, including the Clifton 2, Stinson 3 and Stinson 3 ATR. The Clifton 2 improves upon the original, award-winning Clifton by introducing a slightly padded tongue for increased comfort and additional structural overlays to improve midfoot support, while the Stinson 3 and Stinson 3 ATR now feature a more balanced Meta-Rocker for improved forefoot support, along with light padding on the tongue for increased comfort.

ALTRA Zero Drop Footwear Expands

Salt Lake City, UTAH (January 19, 2012) — ALTRA Footwear, innovators of the revolutionary Zero Drop shoe, have expanded their line of footwear to combine the bio-mechanical advantages of barefoot positioning with the structure and protection of traditional cushioned footwear.

The new line, which debuts at Outdoor Retailer 2012 Winter Market, includes the original Instinct and Intuition core running shoes, the first ever to combine Zero Drop, fully cushioned, foot-shaped, and gender-specific features. The line includes core running shoes, Lone Peak trail shoes, and The Adam and The Eve slip- on minimalist shoes, the Samson and Delilah lace-up minimalist shoes, and the Provision and Provisioness running shoes with a removable stability wedge.

The shoe’s groundbreaking design places the foot in its most powerful and stable positioning, leading to fewer injuries and greater speed. Because of the full cushioning and durable outsole, runners can also expect to run much greater distances than with other barefoot running positioning shoes.

The founders of ALTRA are former All-American runners, triathletes, and ultra-marathoners. Two of them managed Runner’s Corner in Orem, Utah, which became influential at a national level by taking a personal interest in helping runners run better.

The young innovators created the zero-drop shoe category by working with a local cobbler to cut out the elevated heel of traditional running shoes. They glued the soles back together to create shoes that were the same distance off the ground at the heel and forefoot, therefore having no “drop” from heel to toe. The store had thousands of customers who bought new shoes, took them to the cobbler, and paid an average of AUD 40.79 for the alteration. The innovation of “AL-tered shoes” and the founders’ ul-TRA marathoner status provided the inspiration for the ALTRA brand name.

Nearly all running shoe midsoles have a “2-to-1 ratio,” meaning the heel of the shoe is elevated twice as high as the forefoot. Over time, running in “high heels” can cause a range of injuries.

By removing the heel, ALTRA’s founders created shoes that allowed the foot to sit level with the ground, without a drop from heel to toe, and with that, Zero Drop footwear was born.

Among the biggest benefits to Altra’s Zero Drop shoes is the shift in running posture. Most runners have become “heel strikers,” landing with a straight, extended knee because an elevated heel causes the foot to reach the ground early, slowing the forward momentum of the body. This early ground-strike means the knee does not have time to properly bend to absorb the body’s impact. A Harvard study shows that landing with a heel strike causes initial impact 3 to 5 times greater than landing on the mid to forefoot. Heel strikers not only frequently complain of foot pain, but also knee, hip, and back pain, as the impact reverberates through the body with each footfall.

With a flat-bottomed, Altra Zero Drop shoe, the foot is unencumbered by an elevated heel, so the body’s running posture improves. The runner’s stride is naturally cushioned because the foot lands more under a bent knee, using the natural spring system of the lower leg.

With improved running position, the runner’s stride becomes more efficient, meaning greater foot turnover and speed with the same effort. Foot efficiency is also increased with literally, a lighter shoe. Altra’s Zero Drop core training shoes are 8.8 ounces for men and 8.1 for women, nearly 25% lighter than current popular running shoes.

Fully Cushioned:
Altra shoes are unique in the marketplace because they combine a zero drop sole and barefoot foot positioning with the structure and cushioning of a traditional running shoe. ALTRA’s core running and trail shoes come with a complete three-layer cushioning system: a full rubber outsole, a 12 mm fully-cushioned midsole, and a 5mm insole. In total, Altra’s 21 mm cushioning is on par with durable training shoes and provides two to five times the protection of a typical minimalist shoe. Altra shoes are durable enough for runners to both train in and even complete with the same pair of shoes (even in ultra marathons).
Altra shoes eschew the standard mix of rubber and EVA for their outsole. Instead, they offer a full rubber outsole, which offers excellent stability and far more durability than EVA outsoles. The sleek sole enables runners to sense the ground under their feet, without interference.

Runners with Altra shoes have placed in the top three at multiple ultra marathons in recent years, including Kat’cCina Mosa 100k, Antelope Island 100k, and the Buffalo Run 50K. Runners with Altra shoes have also placed well in 100-mile races, including the Wasatch 100 Miler, Western States 100, and a win at the Laramie 100.

Foot-shaped:
ALTRA shoes are shaped like healthy feet. The shoes’ natural foot shape also contains a Morton’s toe allowance, meaning it accommodates those with a longer second toe. The toes subsequently relax and give sufficient room to the big toe, which provides not only greater foot stability, but also increased toe-off for better forward propulsion. Nearly all other running shoes contain a pointed, triangular toe box, which pushes the toes together and causes the foot to de-stabilize and over-pronate.

Gender Specific
ALTRA is the only running shoe company to offer fully gender-specific footwear lasts for both men and women. Women’s feet have narrower heels, higher arches, and different forefoot positioning, and ALTRA’s Zero Drop shoes are built on the appropriate gender specific lasts to accommodate those differences.

The ALTRA Instinct (male specific) and Intuition (female specific) running shoes retail for AUD 149.58 at www.altrarunning.com.
