The New Balance 993 will be replacing the New Balance 992. Some of the new features will include an upgraded cushioning system in the heel called Abzorb DTS which is a layered cushioning system technolgy from New Balance that is now present in their elete runnning series. The other big difference in the way the shoe will fit, especially wide sizes. New Balance is going back to the fit of the legendary New Balance 991. Many people who upgraded from the New Balance 991 to the New Balance 992 were unhappy with the fit. The result was New Balance taking immidiate action and adjusting the fit and producing the New Balance 993 very quickly. Typically this series would be out for several years. For example the New Balance 991 was untouched for over a decade. The New Balance 992 barely made two years. Once New Balance got the feedback from the consumers they took swift action and went directly into the production of the New Balance 993.
I've never spent this much for shoes before but have been pleasently pleased with these. The bottoms of my feet were hurting after runs with my old shoes so I invested in these. I only run apx 10-12 miles a week but can tell a big difference. No pain. Money well spent in my opinion. Oh yea, and I LIKE the conservative grey shoes!

The 992 is probably the shoe with the most comfort and support. If you are buying a 992 because you can no longer find the 991, you will have to shave off at least a half size. The 992 is wider at the toe, so you do not need the extra space. I ordered my usual size for a 991, but it was like a boat, so I sent it back for a half size smaller. I could "maybe" go with a full size smaller, but I am not certain. Beyond that, it is as fine a shoe as the 991.

These shoes are initially very comfortable. Within a very short time, however, they are very hot. Unless you like running/walking outdoors in frigid conditions these might not be for you.

I have been searching high and low for a shoe that feels comfortable. I have bilateral plantar fasciitis and the 992 is the only new balance running shoe that I can wear without pain. Very supportive yet cushioning. havnt used for running since I cant run with this condition. will buy another pair. Only problem is that heal is a little loose. I tried a smaller size and that was too tight though

I've had 991's for years and was disappointed when I could no longer buy them. I eventually bit the bullet and bought the 992's and I must say I'm satisfied. I agree with someone else's comment that they run a tad bigger than the 991's. In the 991's my foot is just a tad too big for 10 1/2 so I've been wearing 11. In the 992's the 10 1/2 4E's are very comfortable.
