From Runners World:
Quote:
The latest Elixir is slightly lower to the ground and an ounce lighter, so we have moved it from the stability category to performance-training. Because of the low midsole, this version is more flexible than its predecessor, according to RW Lab tests. And the shoe is built on a new last that offers more room through the midfoot. The improved fit means more runners will enjoy this shoe, but we still recommend it as a trainer for efficient runners or as a racing shoe for heavier runners with lower arches.

From the Running Network:
Quote:
The previous versions of the Wave Elixer overlapped other shoes in Mizuno’s lineup with too many similarities and not enough identity of its own. That’s no longer the case. The Elixer 3 features dramatic changes to the outersole and upper, while capitalizing on the strength of the midsole. We loved everything about this shoe except the shape of the outersole: while it makes a stable transition in the heel, it’s a little rigid. The upgraded upper meshes, G3 forefoot traction, and the 15-gram reduction in weight have transformed the Elixer into a true performance shoe, a renovation that really stood out among the shoes we reviewed.

I have been using the Wave Elixer 3 for the last few months. I have had quite a few Mizuno shoes over the years and for me this is one of the best. Perhaps lighter than average it has good stability with a smooth ride. The greater flexibility has not seemed to sacrifice control. I think that it could work as a marathon racing shoe or speedwork shoe for those not able to go to a racer. For the more mechanically gifted it can still work as the shoe they do all their mileage in.

From Runners World:

Mizuno tweaked the fit of its lightest training shoe, but that's about all. It added overlays to the midfoot to help snug the upper around the arch for a better fit. Our experience with the Elixir revealed that it's best not to mess with a good thing, since it continues to do well with our testers. It offers the softest heel cushioning of any performance trainer in this guide. Recommended as a training shoe for efficient runners or as a racing shoe for heavier runners with low arches.
