The Complete Eutopia is the latest in a growing line of style-forward minimalist shoes from Puma. This one is categorized as a lightweight stability trainer, but it only offers a scant amount of support for mild pronators. Best for neutral runners and underpronators, it excels as a short-distance racer or a speed-oriented, low-mileage training flat. It's highly flexible, fits snug from heel to toe and has a super-secure heel cup. Built with speed in mind, its low-to-the-ground profile and smooth ride are most appreciated by midfoot and forefoot strikers.
Puma's latest has a flashy look and offers solid performance, too. The heel and forefoot feature a section of durable polyurethane hexagonal units that compress into each other for added softness, tying the Bislett (right) as the softest shoe in this category. The upper overlays are covered in mesh for added support and a snug forefoot feel. Recommended for efficient runners with higher arches looking for a unique aesthetic.
Puma continues to push the envelope with innovative lightweight shoes. The Eutopia enters the Puma line as a neutral high-mileage trainer with performance credentials, particularly its weight. The noticeable addition of a full-length lD Cell layer gives the Eutopia a well-cushioned feel that’s durable enough to hold up to high mileage and is nicely married to a cushy EVA Strobel board and new single density innersole. This combination makes for a comfortable step-in experience that continues in a smooth ride on the roads. Dual density lugs break up the outersole and allow a great feel for the road.
TESTER FEEDBACK: “I found the cushioning to be sufficient for long runs with decent bounce in both the heel and forefoot. Good traction on all running surfaces, reminds me of a tractor tread. After pounding these shoes hard on every type of surface only the softest areas of the sole show any sign of taking a beating. Fine for tempo runs, long runs, and daily training. I really liked these shoes and have not had Pumas since 1973.”
BOTTOM LINE: Lightweight and very well cushioned, especially suited to neutral runners with a preference for light shoes.
You know that feeling after a run — all blissed-out on endorphins, not a care in the world? Yeah, we turned that feeling into a shoe. Lightweight and packed with comfort features, these running shoes are a little manna from heaven.
